A document from the acting provost Marshall's office August 30, 1862. This order gives all sheriffs, deputy-sheriffs, Constables, Chiefs of Police and their subordinates the right to act as Special Provost Marshalls to enforce the return of deserters from the forces to their field of duty.

Affidavit of Philander Pierce, liable for draft, stating that he is the father of two motherless children, under 12 years of age and that they are dependent on his labor for support. Certified and witnessed by Calvin Delva and Willard Forbes before Mr. Ball, Justice of the Peace. December 11, 1863

Voucher from U.S. Government October 2, 1862 to W. H. Bass, Chairman of the Board of Selectmen of Warwick for the amount of $6.00 for transport of recruits from Warwick to Athol - recruits raised for the United States for nine months service.

A list of 14 Warwick men, dated July 20, 1862 who have agreed to serve for 3 years. First person on list is Alexander Cooper, a 37 yr old Currier (who survived many battles of the war but was killed while putting up the monument at Warwick Cemetery).

A single sheet by order of John Andrew, Governor, July 14, 1862, to enlist 13 men in Warwick for service of the U.S. in the Regiments of the Mass.Volunteers. States that a premium of two dollars for each recruit is offered.

Plans proposed by Henry Witherell to invite "the boys in the blue" who enlisted from Warwick 1861-65 during the year of Gettysburg's 50th anniversary. Veterans would furnish an hour of reminiscences, followed by a roll call, exercises at the cemetery, a banquet at noon, another roll call when a descendant or other relative could answer for a fellow soldier, ending with a reception.

24 year old Henry Manning died on Sept 4, 1868, in Warwick. An interesting story of his Civil War service with the 24th regiment is detailed in this obituary.

A small (approximately 2"x2") colored tintype of a young union soldier, probably a member of the Cook family. Black, embossed wood case. In great condition.
