An act regulating Furlough passes granted soldiers 1862

A document from the acting provost Marshall's office August 30, 1862. This order gives all sheriffs, deputy-sheriffs, Constables, Chiefs of Police and their subordinates the right to act as Special Provost Marshalls to enforce the return of deserters from the forces to their field of duty.

Marriages registered in the Town of Chicopee and West Boylston in 1855

Page 282 of the records of the Town of Chicopee, MA. A notation says that item #75 is not Eva's mother. Page 255 from the West Boylston Records indicate that #22 was of interest. On Nov. 28. 1855 Horace Allen and Margie Blodgett were married.

Excerpt from the Vital Records of the Town of Gill to the year 1850

The New England Historic Genealogic Society has several pages of Gill Births and pages of Gill Marriages. Children of Cornelius and Susanna Allen are mentioned as Abigail, born Dec. 1, 1798 and Cornelius - April 5, 1813 as well as additional children.

Copy of death record of Cornelius Allen. Died August 3, 1852 in Gill, Massachusetts, age 70, occupation farmer, place of birth France, cause of death disease of the heart, father and mother's maiden names not given.

On back of record is hand-written note by whom not known. Cornelius Allen was husband of Susanna Cady Allen, grandfather of Eva Allen who was adopted by William H. Bass. Eva was the daughter of Marcus D. Allen; Eva's mother having died giving birth to Eva. Other records contradict this information.

A letter from the Gill Town Clerk to Jean Farwell concerning her questions about the Allen and Johnson families

The town clerk, Harriet Tidd, indicated that she could supply death certificates of Cornelius Allen and his wife Susannah for a fee. She cited fees that needed to be sent in order to send the information.
