Family History

A handwritten list (front of folded paper difficult to read) of the names of 25 Warwick men who joined in 1774 a company of Minute Men from N'fld (26 m2n). These men "marched to Cambridge upon the alarm of Lexington." The following men are on the list and they served from 23 days to 4 weeks 2 days or less. Lieut. Thomas Rich, Sergt. Joseph Mayo, Sergt. Abraham Barnes, Corp. Seth Peck, Corp.

Rhoda Cook made the last entry into the diary on February 9, 1903 when her mother died. She comments that it was difficult for her mother to put her thoughts onto paper. However, it does contain many thoughts for the time period 1888 through 1903

Letter to R.A.C. from a relative in San Jose, CA. Rhoda and this relative shared the same Grandmother Field of Northfield. Childhood memories - for the first time saw railroad cars, dug apples & potatoes from sandpit where they had been buried all winter, took the Munn's Ferry (Northfield Farms)across the Ct. River. Asked for information on the Field family. Glad to hear Rhoda in losing weight as the writer of letter had lost 25 lbs and is now under 200 lbs.

Two letters to Rhoda from her mother (dated Apr 28, 1880 and June 8, 1880 - both sent from Barre). Letters concern the health of individuals, planting garden, other home issues.

- Letter Dated May 30, 1865 "Dear Sister" from R.A.C. concerning wanting to be home for elections but is working in the vineyard to help pay board, having received a letter from Henry Witherell telling her of concert and ball, and asking her to be there, wonders if any of the Springfield folk will be up for the summer, talks of the help where she is working (three yankees, one man of color and two dutch women "who hoe and make fun for the rest. '

24 year old Henry Manning died on Sept 4, 1868, in Warwick. An interesting story of his Civil War service with the 24th regiment is detailed in this obituary.

A handwritten letter from Emma B. Mayo to a Miss Cook (probably Rhoda) concerning the Wheeler Brush Factory in Brush Valley. From February 7th, 1921.

A handwritten genealogy of the Leonard family. Solomon Leonard was born about 1610 in England and was one of the earliest settlers in this country. A descendant settled in Warwick around 1778
